Helmets on the Road

What a helmet is supposed to do

Great helmets do allow you to ride further. They do this in several different ways. All the while, you hopefully aren’t noticing anything at all.

1. A great helmet is light. A lighter helmet is going to prevent fatigue and prevent you from compensating in other places than your neck. We have had several occasions, where the customer who is trying on our Louis Garneau Titan, they forget it is on their head. This is a good sign.

2. The more ventilation, the more you can release heat. When your body is able to regulate your temperature (especially on super hot days), you can ride longer, faster and more confidently. This (theoretically) will also allow for more enjoyment.

3. As helmets are considered “better”, the fit becomes more exacting. Someone who is going to put a lot of miles on their bike should be more concerned about fit because of overall comfort. But, more importantly, the helmet will protect your head better if it fits properly.

With all this taken into consideration, we recommend Louis Garneau above all over helmets. All helmets pass the same Government mandated tests, so the fit, weight and ventilation will lead you to the right conclusion.
